MY STORY

Hello, my name is Jolma, and I was born and raised in the Amdo region of Tibet. I now made Portland, Oregon my home.

I make my kitchen utensils sing and dance while remembering and storytelling in my mind.

What's Amza Superfoods? The word 'Amza' is the phonetic spell of 'Amdo food.' 'Amdo' is one of the three regions of Tibet, and I'm from there. Amdo is also the birthplace of the current Dalai Lama.

I grew up in Rebgong, a cultural hub known for Tibetan arts - literature, painting, and food. And I learned cooking very young from my beloved late grandmother, Sonam, who also raised me.

I enjoy cooking fresh meals and sharing my rich heritage and food with the people in my world.

My grandma was illiterate, a nomad at birth, but she once told me, "To discover the world, one must move beyond her own kitchen." That conviction led me to become the 1st girl from my village to earn a college degree. I journeyed from Asia to Europe to America, learning English from the ABCs when I was 30 and building a successful career as a Product Experience Designer.

I've drafted a memoir cookbook sharing Tibet's healthy eating and social traditions to honor my grandma and disadvantaged Tibetan women like her. Each of the 65 recipes tells a story. I blog about it at http://BeyondHerKitchen.com.

I have since started a food business celebrating Tibetan culture. Try our heart-healthy, wholesome barley Tsamba Balls, Flaxseed Spread with Dates, and Flaxseed Spread with Chili & Turmeric.

Help us celebrate Tibetan culture through food and stories.

And thank you for riding along with me!
