Tsamba or Tsampa — first food of the Tibetans – is ingrained in ancient lore and everyday life in Tibetan culture.
Tsamba is a flour made from ground, roasted barley, which has sustained Tibetans for over a thousand years. We use the Tibetan Purple Karma Barley (heirloom variety), which is now grown in the US Northwest, where we source from.
Tsampa is a beloved staple in the Tibetan diet and is enjoyed in many ways. The Dalai Lama starts his day with tsamba. (The Guardian once described it as "Breakfast of champions: the Dalai Lama's tsampa.")
How to use Tibetan Tsamba
It can be incorporated into various recipes such as protein balls, desserts, pancakes, cookies, smoothies, breakfast bowls, and savory dishes like soups and stews. It can also be used as a thickening agent. Remember, it's cooked.
Enjoy this nourishing food like the Tibetans, adding nutty, toasty flavors, nutrition, and textures to your meals!
