Tsamba or tsampa is a type of flour made from ground, roasted barley, which has sustained Tibetans for over a thousand years. We use the heirloom Tibetan Purple  Barley variety, now grown in the USA.

Tsampa is a beloved staple in the Tibetan diet and is enjoyed in many ways. It's a common breakfast for Tibetans, including the Dalai Lama. The Dalai Lama begins his day with a bowl of tsampa.

An American brought this heirloom purple barley from Tibet in 1924 and saved the seeds in the USDA seed bank until recent years. We feel fortunate to source this heirloom, climate-resilient crop locally in Oregon.

Best breakfast ever!

I just love this breakfast mix. It's hearty and delicious. The little bits of dates mixed within add just the right amount of sweetness. Honestly, I've not tasted anything else like this!

Super easy to make, I just add hot soymilk. Tastes super good and is lightly sweet. Makes for a very filling breakfast!

So healthy and so adaptable

It has a wonderful flavor from the barley, subtle and unique. Very easy to make for breakfast or a snack, and is lovely as is, but also fun to play around with, using different liquids or adding new toppings. I also love that the ingredients are locally grown. Try it!

So easy, healthy, and tasty!

Just add hot water! But to be honest, I like to add a bunch of toppings, too. ;) I've been eating this healthy breakfast just about every morning for months. I love it, I feel great when I eat it, and I never get bored of it!
